Can Jerry Lorenzo Save Adidas? Fear of God x Adidas coming APR 19

Jerry Lorenzo shocked the fashion community in December of 2022 when he decided to leave his position at Nike and join Adidas as the head of the creative and business strategy of the basketball division. Since the announcement audiences around the world have been highly anticipating what this collection will consist of. Lorenzo’s two-year hiatus has led many individuals to speculate as to what this collection would look like after such a long design process. Jerry was known to be an innovator in the fashion realm and has created amazing products like the ESSENTIALS wardrobe line as well as the Air Fear of God sneakers. Jerry Lorenzo looks to kick off his partnership with Adidas on April 19th during the Hollywood Bowl runway show. During this show, Jerry is expected to debut Fear of God’s 8th Collection as well as some of the Adidas Fear of God collection.

During the last few months, a few leaked images have been circulating through social media. These leaks consisted of a few shoes rumored to be part of this new collection. The leaked images that surfaced depict a mid-cut shoe, with a black and cream color-blocking design. The shoe also appears to feature a midfoot strap and Lightstrike foam sole. Most importantly, front and center there is the obvious 3-Stripe branding in combination with Fear of God branding on the heel.

Since the release of these leaks Adidas and Jerry have received an immense amount of backlash. Many fans on social media were outraged by these leaks as they had higher expectations for this collaboration. Since then Jerry had publicly come out and stated that these leaks were sample pairs that were never going to be a part of the collection but instead were used as a part of his creative process. Jerry even joked about this on Instagram stating “If we spent two years making these then Adidas and @Fear of God should “cancel me”.”

Speaking to Complex about the leak, Lorenzo stated: “This is not the basketball sneaker from Fear of God and Adidas,” Lorenzo said of today’s leak, adding that the "Fear of God x Adidas performance sneakers and ready-to-wear collections will be officially unveiled on April 19 during the Hollywood Bowl showing of Fear of God’s 8th Collection.”

The sample shoe, posted by Instagram user Kevin Hoang (@youngviet23) isn’t necessarily fake. Most likely, the ‘leaked’ photos are a super-early sample that never made it into final production. When comparing the leaked shoes to Jerry Lorenzo’s previous work at Nike, the design features are quite consistent with the style seen in the Fear Of God Moccasin and Raid.
